Which devices support Wi-Fi 6E? A business compatibility guide
A Wi-Fi 6E access point does not make every device a 6 GHz device. Compatibility depends on the wireless chipset, antenna design, operating system, driver, security configuration and local regulatory profile.

Check the adapter, not only the model name
Two laptops sold under the same family name can ship with different wireless adapters. Inventory the actual adapter in each priority device and compare it with the manufacturer's support information. Intel maintains a Wi-Fi 6E product support list for its adapters.
Operating system and driver support matter
A 6 GHz-capable chipset still needs an operating system and driver that enable the band in the destination country. Managed Windows images, Linux kernels and older driver packages should be tested before a rollout is approved.
For Linux estates, use the current Linux wireless driver documentation and the device vendor's certified operating-system matrix rather than assuming chipset support is enough.
What happens to older devices
A tri-band network can continue serving older equipment on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz while compatible clients use 6 GHz. That makes phased migration possible, but it also means the design must retain enough capacity and coverage on the legacy bands.
Build a representative test group
- Include each standard laptop build and driver branch.
- Include phones and tablets used for voice, scanning or operational apps.
- Test authentication, roaming and application performance, not only a speed test.
- Record devices that must remain on 5 GHz and the date they are due for replacement.
